This is going to be a mish mash post today.  I'm listing some keepers, some for sale, and fleece pictures.

These are fleece samples from some of the ram lambs that we are keeping.  Clipped today, midside.  For the blacks, l to r, Crosswinds Pegasus (our new spotted boy from Corinne), Perse, Gabardine, and Coburg.
For the lights, l to r, Velour, Dungaree, and Tarlatan.
Feedback??  What do you think? These are quite diverse in type on the hoof (as you'll see below) but all are fine, soft, and crimpy/wavy.

This is Pegasus . . .  and it is about as good as I can get by myself.  He is an in your face type so decent pictures have been pretty much unsuccessful.  This is the line of the black boys in the fleece samples above.  Pegasus, Perse, Gabardine, and Coburg - what do you know, lined up just like the fleeces!  (No, I did not plan that at all!)

Perse (Dreamie/Britta)
I really like this ram.  Uniformity of fleece even down his britch, dense, soft, fine, good structure.  Excellent staple length.    A very solid ram.

Perse - hip

Velour (Apache/Viva)

Dungaree (B2/ Dakota)

Didn't get a picture of Gabadine (some of them just didn't want to leave breakfast), but here is his fleece.  Yes, he is modified.  (Torvus/Galerina).   I really like the fineness of this boy's crimp.  I'm just uncertain as to what this fleece is going to look like in a year or two.  The length, coupled with the fineness and softness, is superb though.

Gab - mid

Coburg (Dreamie/Cinnibarina).  Yes, that is a big smirslet.

Percale (WS "Black"/Paxina) - he is for sale.  Very crimpy and very fine.  Broke a horn when very young.  Long bodied.

This is a moorit out of Windy and by Dreamie.  He wouldn't turn around but has excellent horns and a very nice breed typey head.  He is peeking behind Coburg above.  For sale.

The moorit's fleece.

There are a few other boys that aren't pictured if someone is interested.

  1. Nice ram lambs. Just out of curiosity how do you like horns like Coburg's compared to horns like Percale's? I used to think the heavier ones were better, but the UK judges seemed to think that lighter one were better.

  2. Thanks Laura. Actually, I like Coburg's horns. Great width between as well as away from the face. Yes, they are heavier but not nearly as much as Gabardine, who is going to have very heavy horns. His I question (just got some pics today of him, not great, but oh well). But Gab's fleece is very intriguing - it is very fine and very crimpy, even though the tip is longer.
Percale may be a half poll, maybe not. I'm just wondering if the finer the fleece, the finer the horns - without the tippiness. Lots of variables and diversity in this breed!
